Hello all,
I can’t tell you the sadness I was overcome with it today, hearing about the passing of Bo Griffin today. I worked with Bo, one of her on air colleagues, from 1986-1988 at WHQT, HOT 105, Coral Gables.
Looking back, it’s so many years ago, but at the same time, like yesterday, we were young, having fun, and it was a great time to be in radio. A time, when companies wanted to win, local disc jockeys were plentiful, PD’s loved the radio wars, and the talent was all around……so many creative people I remember, G. Micheal Mckay, Hutch, Irene Richard, Tramonte Watts, Steve Stansell, Robert W. Walker, Greg Buedell, Paulie Castronovo, Gina, Stue Grant, Duff Lindsey, Jim Kelly, Dave Caprita, Bad Bobby Elerbee, Geoff Fisher, all the voice over people, Connie Zimit (recently passed) Darrel Gilly, all the sales people, the Sales mgrs. the GM’s, the engineers, so many people (I left many names out of this list/that deserve mention) that were just impassioned by radio, and made that era in South Florida, a memorable good time…..and then there was Bo Griffin, this beautiful personality, on the air/and off….
I was a jock/production guy, just starting out in radio, in 1986 when I was hired at Hot 105. I would hear Bo, the night jock from 6-10p, and be amazed at the talent that flowed from, her microphone, …..so electric, so reflective of the city, and the audience she would broadcast to…..she had such a big game, always ON her game, she would just open the mic…..and that big personality would flow out into the city…….wow, it was special to hear, and witness. I would be in the control room, for many of her broadcasts…..she was that real, and the same when the mic went off.
And then that giggly laugh, I can hear it like it was yesterday, she had huge rating #’s, and she would have about 6 live appearances (paid) a week, I used to be like, ahhh, can the overnight guy get one of those, lol….a real celebrity jock, that I was lucky to work along side of, as I was beginning my broadcasting career,
As the years passed, I would be blessed many times, moving on to the Breeze, Love 94, Zeta 4, into National voice work, relocating to NY…and Bo flew as well, moving into national TV work, on Extra, FOX, going to LA with that big talent of hers….etc.
We lost touch, but I never forgot our friendship, or her talent, her memory is as clear as yesterday, I wished I would’ve called
Today, shocked, and saddened of her sudden passing way to early, way to young. A toast to Bo, her life, her talent, and mostly, her beautiful spirit n heart, that burned so bright.
My condolences to her family,
Much Love
