Determining The Level of Your Auto Insurance
One the questions before obtaining auto insurance for your vehicle is what level of auto insurance do you really need ? This is an important question, if you make a mistake, either you’ll get an insufficient cover which will cause some unfortunate situation or difficulties for you in the future if it’s too low, or you might end up wasting your money because you spend it for unnecessary covers if you take a too high coverage level for your vehicle.
Rationally thinking, the first thing to be considered is of course the value of the vehicle. Let’s say you have a brand new car valued around $50,000 or $75,000 then it would be necessary for you to give the highest level protection for that car, also considering that the rate of the insurance is likely to be insignificant when considering the overall annual cost of the car.
But if you have an old car or vehicles with low value, comprehensive cover would be inappropriate comparing between the insurance rate and the annual cost of the car. The idea is, you should really consider the cost you spend for the auto insurance and the benefit you might get out of it.
It also goes for a new driver or drivers with bad driving history, and/or cars with many previous claim history. In this situation, insuring with the highest level is a waste of money, because it will not give the same level of benefit, new drivers or drivers with bad driving history will be hard to file a claim, and even the claim is approved almost impossible to get the full payment.
But remember, whatever cover you have for the vehicle, when it comes to third party liability, you have to take it seriously and it’s always a good idea to get the best third party liability cover to protect you against claims and law enforcement from third party. This is very important because the amount of claim from third party sometimes can be extremely high and you might not able to afford it.
Comprehensive cover is also acceptable if you have invested lots of money to your car in order to modify it so that the value of the car might increase from its original value, and it’s also considerable if you would take some extension of covers to protect it.
the circumstance of neighborhood where you live is also a consideration, comprehensive cover is needed if you live in an area where there are lots of cases of car vandalism, but of course the value and other things above should also be a consideration as well, because the rate of auto insurance is automatically increased when you live in such area.
whether you drive a cheap or expensive car, your safety should comes first and accident can always happen, so it’s great if you have a maximum personal injury cover for your own good. Also it’s a good idea to protect yourself from uninsured drivers, you should take it seriously as it can cause a permanent damage for you and you might be disabled and not able to work for your family.
In some countries including USA and UK, it’s against the law to take your car down the street without insurance, but insuring your car is not about avoiding the law, it’s about your own protection and safety, but of course with reasonable price.
