Kerja Keras Adalah Energi Kita! Pertamina as an oil and natural gas company owned by the government of Indonesia is a corporation which was built out of struggle and hard work. This phrase is not an exaggeration if we observe directly the simple story behind the success of this Indonesia’s largest SOE.

Sangatta district in East Kutai, East Kalimantan Province is one of the largest bases of its success in order to realize its vision to become world-class oil and natural gas Company, also to become a haven for sufficient supply of oil and gas for Kalimantan region including East Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan.

In this small town in the development era of Pertamina range between 1970 – 1980, hundreds of people with the spirit of hard work built the early foundations of the success of Pertamina to become our oil and gas energy source.

Noor Ahmad Effendi (54) is one of the living witnesses of the struggle and hard work of Pertamina small workers in those days, recalling the experience hunting oil content points after in Sangatta, making the eyes of this father of three looks wet.

He was willing to Live out in the woods with leech bites and never slept soundly under the threat of poisonous snakes and the Orangutans, to build some Helipads to be used as the landing spot of the Chairman of Pertamina Co.(Malaysian) and to find the oil-rich content spots for earning 150,000 Rupiah at that time.

Finding the points of oil content in the area at that time, certainly not as easy as it is done today. To make one Pertamina oil drilling spot, the workers had to spend 8 to 10 hours per day to enter 18 small sized pipes which was 4 feet high each , the drilling had to be conducted with a machine that has a special drilling edge made out of diamond.

This series of small pipe which is then used to insert the dynamite to blow up the earth as the early checking stage, upon discovery that the point must be the area that contains high-quality oil with high quality standards, then a larger diameter pipe driven into the bowels of the earth to start the raw oil suction. Just imagine, from about 30 drilling points likely only one or two points that really have oil content.

Exhaustion and sweat of all workers will be paid when they successfully find oil content that could last up to 30 years, held a thanksgiving ceremony by slaughtering a cow is a fragment of a story that could make Mr. Fendi wrinkled face smiled slightly.

This article is just a small gift for the whole family of Pertamina Indonesia as well as evidence of dedication of a small worker to the company. In the hope that Pertamina Co. will never forget the service - services of those who had directly contribute to the development and promotion of Pertamina so that it could become what it is today.
